Best
Practices: Workshops for Arts Managers
About
this Workshop Series
In the arts and
culture sector, as in the corporate sector, many proven business
principles exist that have emerged as best practices.
With this in mind, we present advanced- and basic-level workshops
that tailor these principles to the (sometimes) distinctive needs
of the nonprofit arts community. In the end, our goals are:
- To help
arts organizations build capacity in order to free up resources
for their artistic missions.
- To connect
arts managers with a peer network that they can recognize and
call upon with questions.
- To provide
a context for local arts managers to share knowledge gained
at national conferences and professional development events.
Generally
co-presented by an "expert" and a "practitioner,"
these workshops cover both the theory and practice of arts management
and allow participants time to share their own ideas and examples
with peers. Workshops generally last from 2-3 hours and include
such topics as:
- Governance
- Finance
- Human resources
- Development/Grantwriting
- Marketing
- Planning
- Filing
for 501c3 Tax Status
