San Diego, CA + Chollas Creek Project***NEW

Southcrest Trails Park, San Diego.. Witnessing the degradation of the creek, concerned individuals and groups such as Groundwork San Diego and the City of San Diego have begun working towards a vision of Chollas Creek as a greenbelt connecting the neighborhoods along its banks, improving the health of the creek and the surrounding community, and restoring the natural habitat and function of the creek. The park and trail systems have evolved over several phases and, currently, a 5acre section at the west end of the Chollas flood plain is being renewed. Landscaping, trail enhancement and the inclusion of public art are part of the current work.

Seattle, WA + RapidRide Soundscape Project***NEW

4Culture & King County Metro Transit seek an artist to create audio work that will explore and enhance the experience along a new rapid transit bus corridor. The selected artist/artist team will survey the first route of King County's new rapid transit service, the RapidRide A Line which will span Pacific Highway South from Tukwila to Federal Way, and create a route-specific soundscape. Intended to create a sonic sightseeing experience that will daylight stories of place, the artist-created soundscape may include route-sourced and route-inspired words, found sounds, and/or digitally created sound and music. A variety of approaches are possible; anchoring in place will be central. The soundscape will be accessible as downloadable audio files through the 4Culture website – while onboard WiFi-enabled RapidRide buses and through broad internet access – and through Listen4Culture, an audio cell phone program.

This is a great opportunity for an artist with experience and continued interest in creating audio work, and for self-selecting inter-disciplinary teams including sound artists, literary artists, spoken word artists, and musicians to collaborate with one another and with community members to reflect varied interests and expertise in a layered, audio-exploration of place.

Peekskill, NY + James Street Parking Garage***NEW

The City of Peekskill is soliciting qualifications from experienced Artists and/or Artist Teams to design and install original artwork on the exterior and interior of the James Street Parking Garage, located at the corner of James Street and Park Street in downtown Peekskill. In supporting a public art initiative, the City recognizes that public art promotes the City of Peekskill as a lively and engaging city.

Objectives of the program are to support culture and the arts in Peekskill, to celebrate our diverse community, and to improve the quality of life for all citizens through the integration of public art in prominent public spaces throughout the City, including downtown. The James Street Parking Garage is located in an important downtown area within the City’s Artist District and Historic District, and serves a wide variety of businesses, residents and visitors. An attractive and inviting garage will help to support the downtown businesses, and encourage people to park in a previously underutilized parking structure.

Denver, CO + Police Crime Lab***NEW

The Denver Office of Cultural Affairs (DOCA) seeks to commission one or more artists or teams of artists to create site-specific artwork for a new state-of-the-art Police Crime Lab. The new facility will occupy a prominent corner in the Golden Triangle / Civic Center neighborhood at 14th Avenue and Cherokee Street. The funding currently designated for public art at the site is approximately $330,000 including design, fabrication, potential lighting and installation. The project is open to all artists in the U.S. working in a variety of media and materials.

Denver, CO + 14th Street Artwork***NEW

The Denver Office of Cultural Affairs (DOCA) seeks to commission one or more artists (or teams of artists) to create site-specific artwork to enhance and activate a one-mile stretch of streetscape along 14th Street, in downtown Denver, CO.  This stretch, from Market Street to Colfax Avenue, will become a primary pedestrian zone connecting Lower Downtown (LoDo), the Denver Theatre District, and the

Golden Triangle cultural district and Civic Center.  Plans are underway to widen the sidewalks on the north side of the street and encourage more restaurants, entertainment and retail along the street. Street improvements such as benches, planters, new signage, lighting and traffic controls are included in the scope of this project.  Ultimately, these improvements will encourage a lively and activated pedestrian destination, and the artwork should complement and
augment these efforts.

Northglenn, CO + Art on Parade***NEW

The Northglenn Arts and Humanities Foundation (NAHF) is conducting an open entry competition to select six sculptures to be part of Northglenn’s “Art on Parade” on-loan sculpture program. The selected sculptures will be placed at E.B. Rains Junior Memorial Park surrounding Webster Lake in Northglenn , ColoradoArtists will receive substantial recognition and opportunity to sell; therefore, all pieces must be for sale. The placement of selected pieces will begin June 2010 and will be on display until May 2011. Since the program’s inception in 2001, the NAHF has purchased each of the People’s Choice winning sculptures. Although the purchase of the People’s Choice winner is not guaranteed, it is the goal of the foundation to purchase permanent art for the City of Northglenn through the program.

Awards: Each of the six finalists will receive a $500 honorarium to help offset expenses to the artists. In addition, $1,000 will be awarded to the artist who is the recipient of the annual “People’s Choice Award.”

Letters of interest and qualifications are requested from artists interested in creating site specific art for the traffic circle "gateway" of the public access road to the new Bingham Entrepreneurship and Energy Research Center (BEERC) on the regional campus of Utah State University in Vernal. At present the site is rural, however, this traffic circle “gateway” is the entry point for what will become a major campus with high volume of community and student traffic. As possible sources of inspiration and context, the committee will invite finalist artists to consider the purpose of this facility, its contributions to the community, the architecture, the community of Unitah basin and the City of Vernal, and/or the geology of the area.

The Mayor’s Fund to Advance New York City invites eligible artists, designers, organizations, and non-profits living or operating within the City to propose temporary design solutions to renew the surface treatments at all five plazas and smaller ancillary spaces located on Broadway from 47th to 42nd streets. Charlottesville, VA + Art in Place***NEW

Several locations around the City have been selected for public sculpture. Charlottesville is visited by 500,000 tourists each year. All locations are in areas of high vehicular traffic. Although we are looking primarily for large works, we have established sites along Schenk's Branch Greenway where a pedestrian path parallels McIntire Road and allows for views of smaller works. Each installation will be in place for 11 months. Each selected work is provided with signs that direct the viewer to this Web site.

Based on electronic material submitted, each artist receives appropriate descriptions of themselves and their work, the availability of other work for sale, and a link to his/her own Web site. Artists are responsible for providing this description and images of work in electronic format. Every effort will be made to publicize the work with the local media.

The City’s newest public space was designed using environmentally friendly (green) construction practices and materials where possible. The paved surfaces are made up of pervious concrete. It is nicknamed “green” concrete because it keeps pollution out of local streams, reduces flooding and replenishes local ground water. This is a project of the City of Beaverton’s Public Works Department.

Spectacle/Technology Artist D.A. Therrien is accepting applications for artist internships for 2009/2010. Projects will begin in late Spring 2009 and extend through Fall 2010 or beyond.

2 to 3 positions are available with residency - housing included; 5 positions available without residency (housing available at $220 to $500 month). The studio facility is located in downtown Phoenix, AZ - a few blocks from the downtown ASU campus, the Roosevelt Row arts district and the light rail.  Interns should be students, artists, technologists with skills as varied as metal fabrication, machining, programming, theater production, hydraulics, robotics, sound design, linguistics, aluminum welding, mechanical/electrical/civil engineering skills, biotechnology, dance, music composition, etc.

New York, NY + The Street Gallery: Gatescapes Public Art

Artists at any stage in their careers are invited to consider submitting their work for consideration for a temporary public art project for New York streetscapes: The Street Gallery: Gatescapes Public Art.  The newest venture of Mediacy, Inc. the Soho-based advertising company, "gatescapes" are large-format, billboard-sized vinyl placed on roll-down security gates -- initially in New York, and in Los Angeles by mid-year.  Woven into this advertising program, Mediacy is offering the sites to artists, in four-week timeframes between ad displays, for the installation of temporary public artworks.  These storefront “windows” may be used singly, or in combination – triptychs, corner wrap-arounds, or even in a series along a whole block – in locations such as 14th Street at 7th Avenue, Saint Marks between 2nd and 3rd, or the corner of 8th Avenue and 51st Street, and over 150 more to choose from.

Cary, NC + Cary Visual Art Outdoor Sculpture Exhibition

Sculpture artists from across the nation are invited to participate in the 2010 Cary Visual Art Outdoor Sculpture Exhibition, August 13, 2010 - June 24, 2011. This exhibition offers established and emerging artists the opportunity to display their sculptures on the Town Hall Campus and throughout the heart of downtown Cary, North Carolina. Ten finalists will be selected; each finalist whose works is installed will receive a $1,000 honorarium. Juror Glen Weiss, Manager of Public Art and Design for the Times Square Alliance, will choose the ten finalists and the Best in Show prize of $5,000.
