Adaptation – Local Notes gathers the works of 13 artists based in and around the Allegheny County region to examine our communal ability to influence, intersect, and adapt to natural and human-made ecosystems. With these artworks, artists demonstrate how the organic or synthetic materials available in such sites often affect our relationships with each other and the places we inhabit.

Artists in the exhibition include: Tammy Maxson, Melissa Catanese, Adrienne Borkowski, Loring Taoka, Karen Antonelli, Manami Ishimura, Finn Dugan, April Friges, Anisha Baid, Sean P. Morrissey, Barbara Weissberger, Elizabeth Scutt, and Jonathan Lohr. The exhibition is juried by Michaela Blanc and organized by Nina Friedman, Director, Tomayko Foundation.

Sales inquires can be made to the Foundation by contacting Nina Friedman at friedmann@tomayko.foundation or 412-550-0119.

About The Tomayko Foundation:
The Greater Pittsburgh Arts Council is proud to have Tomayko Foundation President Jack Tomayko serve on its Board of Directors.

The Tomayko Foundation was started in 2015 to foster individual creativity through education and the arts.

The Tomayko Foundation fosters individual creativity through education and the arts. Started in 2015 by John (Jack) R. Tomayko, the Foundation has since made a significant impact in these fields throughout the Pittsburgh region by supporting individuals pursuing higher education in the fields of engineering and fine art, visual and performing arts, emerging artists, and organizations who support the work of living artists. Jack has been an art collector for over 30 years.

During that time, Jack has been collecting the work of artist Frank Mason, making him one of the most prolific collectors of the artist’s work. In partnership with the artist’s estate, the Foundation has access to over 300 works of art spanning the entire career of Frank Mason. The artist passed away in 2009. As a custodian of Frank Mason’s work, The Foundation works to archive, exhibit, and promote awareness of the artist.

In 2022, The Foundation purchased its current building at 5173 Liberty Ave. in Pittsburgh, PA. The Foundation holds public exhibitions, art events, and an annual art auction. The Foundation is open to the public weekly, and by appointment on weekends.
